La Joya ISD CTE Students Gain Front-Row Access to Landmark Stadium Scoreboard Construction Project
La Joya, TX - For students interested in construction, engineering, and skilled trades, some of the most valuable lessons happen beyond the classroom. Recently, students in the Construction/Electrical Program at Juarez-Lincoln High School's CTE Summer Bridge Program stepped onto an active job site to witness firsthand how a major infrastructure project takes shape from the ground up.
As part of a work-based learning experience, students visited the construction site of the new La Joya ISD PACK Stadium scoreboard - a landmark project that will soon feature one of the largest video displays in Texas. Standing near the towering structure, students had the opportunity to observe the scale, precision, and expertise required to bring a multi-million-dollar sports facility enhancement to life.
During the visit, the project's lead manager provided students with an exclusive behind-the-scenes walkthrough of the scoreboard installation process. Students learned about the structural framework, advanced engineering concepts, project sequencing, heavy equipment operations, and the extensive planning required to safely execute a project of this magnitude.
"Experiences like this allow students to connect what they learn in the classroom to the careers they may pursue in the future," said Melinda Flores, Executive Director of College & Career Success for La Joya ISD. "By providing direct access to industry professionals and active job sites, we help students gain a deeper understanding of their field while building the technical and professional skills needed for success after graduation."
Throughout the visit, students observed industry professionals as they assembled and installed components of the massive structure while gaining valuable insight into construction techniques, electrical systems, workplace safety standards, project management, and real-world problem-solving.
