La Joya ISD kicked off a month-long celebration of Literacy in the month of November. Families were asked to join in on the fun by participating in a Literacy Bingo. School libraries organized to have a week of spirit dress up. Dr. Palmira Mendiola Elementary hosted a Book Adventure evening filled with activities for students and parents to partake in. However, students at Dr. Palmira Mendiola were most excited to have a visit from Mr. Martin Munoz, Deputy Chief of Academics and Organizational Learning read to them. Mr. Munoz read “The Giving Tree” by Shel Silverstein to Ms. Gonzalez’s first grade class. The students loved the book and enjoyed Mr. Munoz reading the book to them. A great big “Thank You” to Mr. Munoz for taking the time to come and read to the students at Dr. Palmira Mendiola Elementary.
