La Joya High School

La Joya High School’s Grupo Folklorico “Tabasco” and Mariachi “Los Coyotes” upcoming performances “Orgullo y Tradicion 2023” are a representation of Mexican culture exhibited via music and dance. Their performances will be held on February 11th at 1:00 pm and 5:00 pm and February 12th at 1:00 pm at Alejandro “Alex” H. Saenz Performing Arts Center, 604 N. Coyote Drive, in La Joya. A private performance for the student body of La Joya High will be held on Thursday February 9th to kick off the weekend's performances. These performances will showcase the true embodiment of commitment to their culture, school, academics, and community. Alongside the various styles of music and dances representing the different areas of Mexico, this is an opportunity for seniors to take stage under the bright lights and suspensefulness of the crowd for the last time. Karen Ramirez senior Folklorico dancer stated, “This is it, that feeling of a once-in-a-lifetime experience that is never going to happen again so [we] just take it in and enjoy it.” Conjunto “Los Diamantes” are on schedule to “wow” the crowds as they have all year.  In addition to preparing for this weekend’s performance Mariachi “Los Coyotes” recently earned Superior Ratings at the UIL Region Contest. Director Martin Cantu had this to say about his group, “This group of students worked tirelessly to earn a Division 1 Rating at the UIL Region Contest, which in turn, secured them a spot at the UIL State Competition in Seguin.” He went on to add, “We are extremely proud of them and are very excited to showcase their [talent]”.
